The aim of this resource is explain why the USA introduced a policy of isolationism from 1919 to 1939. The learning objectives are as follows: Know: What was the US Policy of isolationism from 1919 – 1941 Understand: Why did the USA follow a policy of isolationism? Analyse: What impact did this policy have on both domestic and international relations? What Am I Looking For? Identify and Describe: the US policy of isolationism and its effects Explain: why the USA introduced isolationism and its effects Analyse: What were the consequences of the US policy of isolationism and come to a judgement on which was the most significant? The starter is a snowballing activity, instructions included. The first part of the presentation then looks at the impact of the First World War and the Treaty of Versailles in the US decision not to sign it or it or join the League of Nations. This is then backed up with a consolidation exercise of a past paper question with a pupil mark scheme which can be easily adapted for peer and self assessment. The next part of the presentation then looks at 6 key consequences of the US policy of isolationism by looking in outline at economic isolationism, immigration controls, Prohibition, the 'Red Scare', Great Depression and the causes of the Second World War. The plenary activity focuses on a thinking skills review triangle, which aims to get students to decide which consequence is the most significant. I have also included a homework activity and some notes with the slides. This resources really well along side my worksheet on US isolation which you can download and buy separately or as bundle with this presentation. Both can be used independently. Human Rights Scheme of Work & Resources for Year 7

The module of work forms part of the Citizenship curriculum within School. It sets out to link the theme of ‘rights and responsibilities’ of our students at a local level of citizenship to the wider global context of human rights abuse. The learning journey will see students explore Human Rights set out by the United Nations Convention of Children’s Human Rights before analysing abuses of such rights. Case study examples are highlighted through the work of Amnesty International and the British Red Cross. The concept of push pull factors are explained in relation to asylum seekers and refugees using a Doncaster context before tackling the issue of prejudice against such groups. These revision cards cover the key factors that you will need to know for the Russian Revolution and Stalin’s Russia 1924 - 41. They make an excellent fun starter, mini plenary or plenary to any lesson. They can also be used by students as revision flash cards. I’ve provided them in word so you can easily adapt them for your own classes. This package incudes both sets of revision cards at a discount price. There are three main ways that you can use them. Game 1 involves getting students to read out the key words until the other guesses the topic correctly. Game 2 involves additional challenge and stretch by getting students to describe the topic without using any of the key words on the card. The third game, which adds an additional layer of fun or challenge involves playing a round of Pictionary or Charades. I normally give my students 3 minutes of each round to help activate the learning and warm up the class. You could also have a freestyle round where students decide which game they want to play linked to their learning style. If you are trying to engage some under achieving boys, add some competition and get them to keep score in the back of their books. I would recommend printing them off on card and getting your students to cut them out. Then put the cards into an envelope for class use. If you are a student then keep them in your pocket and use them as a flash card to help you learn the key facts, If there is a term that you do not understand then as your teacher or do some extra research. How successful was the Elizabethan Church Settlement Act of 1559?

This great lesson is designed to help students assess how successful the Elizabethan Church Settlement Act of 1559 was at promoting peace and stability in England? This is potentially a difficult topic to teach, but these resources approach the topic in a fun and engaging way that is suitable for the full ability range. They also link up the religious changes from previous Tudor monarchs and will allow students to predict what problems would face the Stuarts. When you purchase this resource you will be able to download a PowerPoint with thirteen slides. These include aims, objectives, differentiated outcomes, starters, plenaries, thinking skills activities, pictures, templates and information slides. When you deliver this lesson, you can choose from a selection of starters which include a snowballing starter of the key words or a thinking fork template on attitudes towards the death of Queen Mary. The next activity involves getting your students to draw a religious seesaw and then sorting various statements from the Elizabethan Church Settlement Act and deciding whether they would satisfy either Catholics or Protestants. Once complete, students can draw a line to decide which side the changes benefited the most. Later on in the course, you can refer back to this diagram whilst looking at either James or Charles I and draw links and conclusions as to how they were unpicking the compromise and laying the foundations for the English Civil War. The next activity gets students to sort through a series of cards to help them evaluate how successful the Elizabethan Church Act was at reducing religious tensions. This great little card sort gets students to look at the key factors to explain why the Nazis were able to keep control of Germany from 1933 - 1945. It can be used with a range of abilities and has never failed to get my students excited, engaged, whilst improving their understanding of the topic. The resource includes three key factors - terror, propaganda and popularity, as well as 25 information cards which students sort to help them decide how the Nazis were able to keep control of Germany. As with all my resources, the document is in word so you can customise it to suit your own students by editing, adding or deleting cards / statements. What were the Consequences of the Break with Rome?

Henry VIII’s break with Rome set in play a series of events that dramatically changed our island history. The next two hundred years were riven with religious division between Catholics and Protestants that still haunt parts of the United Kingdom today. In the immediate aftermath England changed it’s state religion several times, whilst both sides persecuted each other accusing the other side of being heretics. The most famous, but certainly not the most bloodiest, resulting in the deaths of 280 Protestant Martyrs during the reign of Queen Mary. Her sister Elizabeth executed far more Catholics whilst trying to come to a compromise through the Elizabethan Church Settlement Act, which left many feeling very unhappy. This led to the Catholics trying to kill King James I and Parliament in the Gunpowder Plot in 1605. Later in 1620, fearful of Catholic plots and further persecution for refusing to attend the Church of England’s services, the ‘Pilgrim Fathers’ leave England never to return in the hope of finding a place where they could freely practice their faith in North America. Later of course these divisions would explode into the English Civil War in 1642 and result in the execution of Charles I. This outstanding resource has been designed to help students studying how effective the opposition movement was in Nazi Germany by focusing on the White Rose group set up by Hans and Sophie Scholl. The text level of the worksheet would suit middle and upper ability students. The follow up tasks include a mind mapping exercise, questions and a source analysis question.
